SASSA Confirms June 2025 Grant Increases: See New Payment Amounts

South Africa’s most vulnerable citizens will soon receive a much-needed financial boost. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially confirmed that social grants will be increased in June 2025.

This development comes as part of government efforts to help beneficiaries deal with the increasing cost of living and economic challenges. Whether you receive an Old Age Pension, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, or another form of social assistance, it’s important to understand how this change will impact you.

New Grant Rates for June 2025

Starting in June, beneficiaries across all major SASSA grant categories will receive slightly higher payments. The Old Age Grant, which supports senior citizens aged 60 and older, will now be R2,190 per month for those between 60 and 74 years, and R2,210 for those 75 and older. The Disability Grant and War Veterans Grant will also increase to match the R2,190 mark, offering much-needed stability to vulnerable individuals.

For families raising children, the Child Support Grant will increase to R530 per child, while the Foster Child Grant will rise to R1,180 per child per month. These changes reflect the government’s ongoing strategy to adjust social benefits in line with inflation and the rising cost of essential goods and services.

June 2025 Payment Schedule

SASSA has confirmed that the June 2025 grants will be paid out according to the regular staggered schedule to avoid long queues and ensure efficient service. The Older Persons Grant is expected to be paid first, starting on Monday, June 3, followed by Disability Grants on Tuesday, June 4. All other grants, including Child Support, Foster Child, and Care Dependency Grants, will be paid from Wednesday, June 5 onward.

Beneficiaries who receive their payments via direct bank deposit should expect the funds to reflect in their accounts on the respective payment day. Those collecting grants through SASSA cards or at designated pay points are advised to visit their nearest sites on or after the official disbursement dates.

What Beneficiaries Should Know

To receive the increased amounts, beneficiaries must ensure that their personal information is up to date with SASSA. This includes verifying bank details, contact numbers, and addresses. It is also crucial to be aware that grant payments are made based on the submission and approval of valid documentation. Any errors in information can delay or suspend payments.

The increase in June is not a temporary relief payment but a permanent adjustment that will continue each month going forward. However, beneficiaries are reminded that this increase does not replace or affect any other government relief programs such as the SRD R350 grant or provincial food vouchers.

Why This Increase Matters Now

This grant adjustment comes at a time when food prices, electricity tariffs, and transportation costs remain high, disproportionately affecting low-income households. SASSA’s increased grants offer crucial support that many South Africans depend on for survival. The additional funds, although modest, are intended to reduce financial pressure and ensure that citizens who rely on government support can maintain a basic standard of living.

Government officials have emphasized that social protection remains a key part of South Africa’s economic recovery strategy. While many have called for even higher increases, the current adjustments represent a step toward meeting the immediate needs of the most vulnerable.
